Yagyu Ranzou (柳生 乱蔵 Yagyuu Ranzō?) is an antagonist in Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone and playable character in Double Dragon III: The Sacred Stones. He is a ninja master member of a secret society of assassins. He is first fought as an end level boss, and once defeated, he joins the Lee brothers in their quest to find the Sacred Stones of Power.

Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone[]

The boss of Mission 3, Japan. He is a very flexible and strong warrior. Watch out for his shurikens and smoke bombs. He will also split into three mirror images during the battle.

Double Dragon III: The Sacred Stones[]

A member of a secret society of ninjas and keeper of the second Sacred Stone. He challenges the heroes to a duel after finding his pupils beaten to the ground. When he is defeated, he discovers that he is not the warrior he used to be and joins the party to improve his skills (unlike the arcade version where he only acts as a boss).

Ranzou is the fastest and most agile of the group and his ninja blade has a very long reach. Unfortunately, he is very fragile and cannot take major damage. He is the only character who cannot pick up enemy weapons.

Total Power: 84

Weapons: Ninja Blade, Shuriken (20)

Double Dragon IV[]

Ranzou is an unlockable character in Double Dragon IV. He is unlocked by beating level 30 of Tower Mode, where he is fought alongside Chin Seimei and Sonny. He is modeled after his NES counterpart.

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons[]

A mysterious young ninja from a secret organization, known as the Secret Society of Ninjas.
Ranzou has no stake in the fate of New York, but he is sent here by his organization as a test of his ability.
~ Official description

Ranzou appears as a playable character in the "Sacred Reunion" DLC.

  • Amon, a playable character in the one-on-one fighting game Double Dragon for the Neo Geo, bears a resemblance to Ranzou.
