The "Bonus Beast" Tape Worm is an enemy in Double Dragon Neon. It is a giant worm-like monster that smashes through walls and drops power-ups and Mix Tapes each time it is hit. Despite its grotesque appearance and hulking body, it cannot harm the player and will only pass through them if they are in its path.

Description[]

A monstrous gigantic worm with three equally gigantic pair of forcipules and three pairs of spider-like eyes that unexpectedly breaks through walls and then just continues its own way, exiting by the bottom of the screen. Despite their grotesque appearance and massive body, they cannot harm the player in any way and will only pass through them if they happen to be in their path. They usually appear in the later levels, generally after an extensive encounter with enemies or before a boss fight.

As its "Bonus Beast" moniker suggests, it will drop a useful item (health/energy replenishing drinks, money or Mix Tapes) each time it receives a hit. As such, the player must try to hit it as many times as possible in the shortest time by using their quickest techniques, which, if well performed, will result in a plethora of free power-ups for them to pick up.

It is somewhat possible to predict when one is about to enter the screen as they always appear in areas where there are no other enemies around, with a suspiciously large and rather empty section of a wall in the background, often having a pair of breakable environmental items on each side and where the monster will appear inbetween.

Trivia[]

  • The name of this enemy is a pun on a class of parasitic worms colloquially known as "tapeworms". The word "tape" in particular makes fun on how this enemy can release Mix Tapes when hit.
