The Mummy is a boss in Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone and Double Dragon III: The Sacred Stones. It is a thousands years old corpse of an ancient ruler wrapped in bandages that has been reanimated by magic.

Description[]

The Mummy appears at the end of the fifth and final stage, Egypt, and is the penultimate boss in the game. In the NES/Famicom games, three of them appear instead. They are very slow and predictable, but can do heavy damage with their grab attack. Defeating the (last) Mummy triggers the final battle against Cleopatra (in the arcade and Famicom versions) or Princess Noiram (in the NES version).

In the Mega Drive port, mummies appear as common enemies (besides the last, larger mummy boss which still is Cleopatra), replacing the Stonemen from the arcade version and behaving just like them. These particular mummies are considerably shorter and chubby-looking, apparently just being modified sprites of the Chin brothers.

Trivia[]

  • While the mummy in the arcade version can be taken simply as an old, wrapped up corpse, somehow justifying its rather generic appearance until its real identity (Cleopatra) is revealed, the three mummies in the NES/Famicom port feature a prominently male and muscular complexion, leaving to ambiguity the gender of the first two.
    • In the NES/Famicom version, Cleopatra's mummy form is much larger than her revived form. This is different from the arcade version, where Cleopatra and her mummy are the same height.
  • The three mummies in the NES/Famicom version are almost identical to each other, sharing the same sprite, although Cleopatra's is gray-colored instead of green-blue, like the first two.
