Ropes 'N' Roper is the third level in Battletoads/Double Dragon.

Overview[]

A complex of hi-tech corridors that connect every corner inside the Colossus. The level also counts with a few vertical tunnel sections (reminiscent of the first Battletoads) where the player must reach the bottom via rappeling. When reaching a corridor's edge, with no other visible way around to proceed, press the ACTION button to deploy the character's "Turbo Rope" and start descending.

The main enemies in this level are Lindas, Securi-Cams and Ravens.

Lindas either come out from doors or from the edges of the screen. Their whips give them long reach and they usually start attacking from a distance; if they connect a hit on the player, they may stun-lock them and make them lose a life in a single combo. Use dashing attacks to take them down.

Securi-Cams can also be nasty hindrances, as their shots can cover a considerable area of the playing field. Jump straight at them as soon as they appear and smash them at will while clinging onto them.

Ravens are usually encountered perched along the rappeling sections and when crossing over long chasms while hanging from metal rails.

The level is also full of traps designed to kill the player with just a few hits. These include:

  • Crusha: Heavy metal compactors that suddenly come out from the ceiling and start smashing onto the ground.
  • Sparkbolt: Twin guns facing each other that shoot a bouncing bolt of energy.
  • Electro Barrier: A barrier of energy that releases spark rings. It can be deactivated by hitting the lever above it.
  • Buzz Disc: Giant seesaws charged with electricity that patrol the walls of the rappeling sections.

Other hindrances include conveyor belts which affect the player's movement, as well as falling debris that must be avoided while traveling the rappeling sections.

The boss of the level is Roper (a misnamed Willy), who towers about two sizes over the player and wields an equally big and nasty machine gun which can make short work of either 'Toad or Dragon with just a few shots.
